Habitat for Humanity of South Central Minnesota is a non-profit, Christian housing ministry dedicated to building simple, decent and affordable housing with and for families in need.

Volunteer Needs: The affiliate needs volunteers for building/construction, committee chairs and members, monetary and in-kind donations. The ReStore, which sells new and gently used building supplies to the public, is in need of volunteers to help cashier, stock shelves, price items, process new donations and help with merchandise pick up. Store hours are Thursday and Friday 10:00AM-6:00PM and Saturday 9:00AM-4:00PM. Money generated by the ReStore is used to build more Habitat homes.

Habitat for Humanity of South Central Minnesota is a non-profit, Christian housing ministry dedicated to building simple, decent and affordable housing with and for families in need.

Lives are changed and enhanced, as the cycle of need is broken. A Habitat for Humanity home is not a “quick fix” nor is it a hand out. It is a permanent solution, one in which the recipients and the entire community take part in. Habitat families are given a chance to become active members of the community and to give back to society. Habitat for Humanity is an integral part of our diverse community by facilitating this partnership and offering homes to qualified families at no profit and no interest.

Each Habitat family must put in 300-500 hours of labor, or what is called “sweat equity” on their house and other Habitat homes, meaning they are often on the work site working with volunteers. By completing sweat equity partner families build new skills, form new relationships and take pride in their new home.

Even though Habitat is a Christian organization, homeowners and volunteers come from all faiths. Habitat does not discriminate on any basis. One of Habitat’s official purposes is “to enable an expanding number of persons from all walks of life to participate in this ministry.” All Habitat projects adhere to a nondiscriminatory family selection policy. From applications submitted, a local family selection committee chooses homeowners on the basis of need, ability to repay the loan, family size, character, and willingness to volunteer time on a Habitat for Humanity project.

Volunteer Opportunities:
-Committee members needed for: Building, Family Selection, Family Partner, Church Relations, Public Relations

-Volunteers needed for office and clerical work.
