HMC assists persons with developmental disabilities in realizing their maximum potential for personal and social functioning.

Volunteers are needed to participate in leisure and recreational activities such as craft club, game night and card making.

Volunteer Opportunities at Harry Meyering Center 
Volunteers play an important role at Harry Meyering Center. A variety of opportunities are available to those wishing to share their time and talents. 

Volunteer Experiences
Opportunity 1
Volunteers will primarily participate in leisure and recreational activities with one specific site. Hours of service are generally between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and between 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Hours may vary slightly depending on the schedule of the people you will be working with at HMC. All hours must take place when a Site Supervisor is present. Volunteers should plan on coming for at least 2-hour time slots unless other arrangements have been made with the Site Supervisor.

Opportunity 2
Volunteers will plan and facilitate “parties” for HMC consumers. Parties are typically held on Saturdays or Sundays within the time frame of 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. 

Opportunity 3
Volunteers will work with consumers in club/group settings, socializing and assisting as needed. Examples of group settings include craft club, game nights, card-making sessions, exercise, and arts and crafts sessions. HMC is always searching for volunteers to teach our consumers new skills and hobbies in a group or house setting. 

Opportunity 4
A fun, energetic person to work in a three-person apartment. Must be interested in at least several of the following activities:
~knitting
~making bracelets
~scrapbooking
~organizing photos
~painting fingernails
~providing foot and hand massages
~participating in leisure activities (walks, picnics, etc.)

Opportunity 5
Volunteer to work with an artistic individuals during Craft Club which is the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month from 6:30 – 8 p.m. Prefer a volunteer with an interest in a wide variety of artistic areas, especially watercolor, photography, painting, and sketching.

Opportunity 6
A fun, energetic person to work in a seven-person apartment. Must be interested in playing games and participating in leisure activities (walks, picnics, etc.)

Opportunity 7
A fun, energetic person to work in an eight-person apartment. Must be interested in participating in sensory activities.


Great for 55+, teens, and groups.

18 yrs old minimum age requirement unless volunteering with a school group/family.

Required Skills: Creativity, Patience, Willingness to have fun, listening skills, ability to work with adults with disabilities, arts & crafts
